Road to Sydney: Marathon Diary wk 9
Keeping it Steady Before the Build
This week felt like a bit of a reset — lower mileage, steady efforts, and just enjoying being out there without chasing anything too spicy. And honestly, I think the body needed it.
Monday: Lunch Miles & Fresh Legs
Kicked things off with a 6.5k lunch run (5:40/km) and it felt nicely controlled.
Nothing dramatic, just a solid endurance pace where everything clicked — heart rate steady, legs behaving and no internal negotiations required (rare).
These are the runs that remind you fitness is ticking along quietly in the background.
Tuesday: Strength & A Little Sass
Swapped trainers for dumbbells with a 30 min upper body strength session.
Not going to lie… upper body is humbling 😂
But keeping this in is key — strong arms = better posture when marathon legs start questioning life choices later down the line. I have rubbish upper body strength so work needed here for sure.
Wednesday: Run Club Catch-Up
6.6k with the work run club (6:05/km) — and this one was all about the vibes.
Easy, chatty pace, a few laughs, and that midweek motivation boost you just can’t replicate solo.
Also… three days of consistency ticking along nicely ✔️
Easter Weekend: Hills, Roasts & Sunshine Miles
This is where the week really came together.
7k “Run for my Roast Lunch” (6:06/km) — slightly hillier route but familiar, effort stayed controlled.
7.1k with my Daughter (6:22/km) — easy, relaxed, sunny, and just one of those runs you don’t want to end, although not sure Iyla felt the same a little complaining snuck in here and there.
And then a little sunshine walk (2.7k) to round things off — because sometimes the best recovery is just getting outside and moving, and bringing by furry friend for company.
The Overall Vibe
Mileage wasn’t huge this week, but that was kind of the point.
Consistency ✔️
Controlled effort ✔️
Legs feeling good ✔️
This is the foundation phase — nothing flashy, just quietly building before things start ramping up over the next few weeks.
And I can feel it coming… 👀
Mini Reflection
If week 8 was “doing the work,” week 9 was “trusting the process.”
No pressure, no chasing paces — just showing up, moving well, and enjoying it.
And sometimes… that’s exactly what you need.
The weather is really starting to improve so getting out the door is becoming easier
